A Tradition 60 years in the making!
Our Story
Started all the way back in 1959 by Richard and Janet Byrne after purchasing a small ice cream roadside stop called Dairy Land, Seaberry Surf was born.
The store was stocked with baskets, gifts, oil paintings and other classic souvenirs from the '50s and became an instant success. The only shop right on Route 6 to offer the original one-stop shop experience for the customer.
Richard and Janet saw the vision of what Seaberry could represent and the promise of the small little fishing town of Wellfleet. As time went on and happy travelers come and go the vision and bet on a little roadside shop paid off big. Wellfleet was just voted the best vacation town in Forbes and Seaberry Surf is still the biggest and best shop for your vacation needs on the Cape.
Fun Fact: The old Dairy Land ice cream can be seen atop Bob's Sub and Cone down the street.
As the store grew in popularity Richard and Janet enlisted their daughter Lori and husband James to run the store. This is when Seaberry Surf "The Floaty Store" really began.
Countless articles and news publications later, how did the floaty store nickname start? Funny enough it started on a slow week for the store. Thinking of ways to have people heading to Provincetown stop, James decided to blow up a pool float and stick it out front.
Almost immediately someone stopped and that slow week proved to be the start of the iconic floaty store in Wellfleet.
We encourage you to stop and take pictures and let us continue making your Cape vacations unforgettable.
We can't wait to see you and our family thanks you for the support.
